The moment

Rarely do moments change your life. We all have moments, whether it’s with a real estate coach, at a conference or in a training session. But it’s rare that anything actually changes.

What changes your business (and sometimes your life) is that one moment  that starts a journey.

When was the last time a single moment started a journey for you?

The customer

How we define the people we work with can determine the treatment they receive. The word ‘buyer’ suggests we want to sell a person something. The word ‘vendor’ suggests we want to list a person’s property.

It seems to me these words – buyer and vendor – are indicative only of what we can get out of someone.

When you remove these words, what you end up with is a customer. Is it possible for us, as agents, to stop focussing on what we get out of people and simply serve our customers?

Sometimes, you just have to do it

Just imagine a restaurant that decided not to do the dishes simply because they didn’t feel like doing it.

Imagine a butcher that decided not to clean their shop because they didn’t like the job.

I’ve said before that your career is shaped not by what you do, but by what you choose not to do.

Just because there are some tasks you don’t like doing doesn’t mean they can be ignored.

Every other industry does the things they don’t necessarily want to do – the less enjoyable tasks. Why should real estate be any different?

Unlike golf

Golf is one of the few sports in the world where the ball remains motionless at impact.

You would think that would make it easier.

Real estate is one of the few industries in the world where we know exactly where our customers live.

You would think that would make it easier.

In fact, unlike golf, it does make it easier.  You simply have to be prepared to build relationships.
