In the suburb where I live, the main street is big cafe and restaurant precinct. There’s also a picture theatre close by that brings in enormous amounts of traffic to the area every day.
It seems that the more traffic that this movie theatre brings to the area, the less quality goes into the cafe and restaurants surrounding it. They’ve become vanilla – one is exactly the same as the other.
As everything is so similar, the only way these cafes and restaurants can offer a difference is to become cheaper.
I recently drove through the street, which is in a reasonably affluent area, and two cafes were offering $5 breakfast – this in an area that usually selects products based on value and quality rather than price.
The question I have for everyone is: what is your value proposition? How are you different to your opposition?
Or have you become the $5 breakfast?
Only fine dining here Mark
